I'm Beverly Claridge and I have a real passion for seeing the Great South become the best place possible in which to create and experience visual arts.

In which area of visual arts are you involved?

In 2011 I opened my studio for art classes.

I am a visionary surrealist working with oil on board for many of my works;  also I create mixed media abstracts from using found objects.

About Me

From leaving school I ventured into the world of glass design and construction, gaining the qualification of a New Zealand Flat Glass Trade Certificate.

Having an artistic mindset led me to using the product to create an extensive range of designer glass works over the span of fifteen years.

Following the experience in the glass industry I returned to full time study for five years to gain a Diploma in Architectural Design and a Bachelor Degree in Applied Arts.

Academic study has given me a passion for modern technology. Coupling this passion with an understanding of the ancient product of glass, I am investigating the potential of glass in the sculptural field. Areas of focus at present are light reflection, refraction and projection.

I also enjoy drawing, painting, graphic design and photography.

About Me

I love to paint and sketch. Tamara De Lempicka, an unjustly forgotten artist is my muse.

My favourite things to paint are figures of women wearing dresses. I collect fashion magazines and covet any dress with beautiful folds that create contrasts.

I also like to sketch faces. The best faces to sketch are wrinkled ones - fantastic tones.

In which area of visual arts are you involved?

I love using acrylic paints. My favourite tool to use is my hairdryer. I can't be without it. I also go through tonnes of black, white and skin coloured paint. I love my chalk pencil too. I can't paint without music. Music really helps me concentrate on what I'm doing. The best music to paint to is Coldplay, Roy Orbison, Tori Amos and any musical.

I also paint fast. These days I'm so busy that I don't have time to muck around!

About Me

My work is about a show of warmth and understanding.

A sensitive genuine engagement with the subject.

Each drawing and painting shows what I admire and love to share.

They reveal and confirm my experiences.

Show my discoveries and reflection.

My hope is that they engage the viewer.

Translating my thoughts and visions into paint is a most personal revelation

and always a challenge.
