About Me

Since my grandmother taught me to knit before I started school I have always had busy hands and a mind seeking the new and refining the known.

My large weaving studio ran from 1977 until recently when I set up the Something Special Gallery in Riverton.

Undertaking the Diploma in Art/craft  Design at Christchurch Polytechnic from 1988-91 gave me a broad experience of a range of crafts. Followed by a B.Sc in Geology with a Philosophy of Art paper thrown in 1995-8, has given me the the technical background for my passion for clay which I am at last following!

I believe strongly that real art and craft are vital to the wellbeing of humankind. It seems unfortunate that commercial considerations blur the margins of what is good art and what has been 'sold' as good. Much of what I see today has been made primarily to sell, not for the challenge and the joy of masterful creation.

It's great to see artists whose work we show in Something Special gallery Riverton as members of GSPAA. If we work together we can be stronger.
